Di Bella restaurant in Athlone

The old side of Athlone is home to a number of restaurants among which are no less than three Italian joints. The other night we decided to head over to Di Bella, the glass-fronted Italian restaurant on High Street. The place was, as usual, full of people. We had called ahead to ensure seating and were seated upstairs.

As we had the munchkin in tow, I was pleased to see a number of other families with small children had decided to patronise Di Bella on the night. We were seated promptly and furnished with a handy child’s seat that strapped directly onto one of the restaurant chairs.

The great thing about Di Bella is that while the food is quite good, the prices are extremely reasonable as well. I always end up getting the same thing: Penne Vodka (€9.95), which is a delicious creamy red sauce made with vodka and mushrooms. We had ceasar salads(€4.50) and bruscetta(€2.95) for appetisers and a bottle of house red. Wifey had the tortellini(€10.95) and the grandparents ordered Penne Vodka and chicken fettuccini (€9.95). All the mains were quickly eaten (we were hungry) and were reasonably tasty and filling.

Wifey and her mom ordered dessert, a Creme Brulé (€4.50) that came served in a fancy bowl that, by design, looks like it’s about to spill your dessert into your lap. Wifey claims this is the whole reason she dines at Di Bella: their Creme Brulé is the best she’s ever had.
