Where to Go for St. Patrick’s Day
Where to go for St. Patrick’s Day? Of course, Ireland. And definitely Dublin. But what if your travel feet itch and decide to choose another city this year? Some of the places to go for St. Patrick’s Day include: New York, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Montreal and Buenos Aires. Although Birmingham ranks way higher in St. Patrick’s Day celebrations than any other British city, you shouldn’t ignore London.
As it happens, I’ll be in London on March 17 (which is a Thursday in 2011). So I’ll definitely be looking for the best Irish pubs in London to enjoy some…green beer. Some good Irish pubs are located close to the tube station Angel – Filthy McNasty’s and O’Neill’s Islington – , but you can find excellent places to party all over the city.
If you happen to be in the USA for this celebration, make sure to get to Chicago. Some of the best bars in Chicago for St. Patrick’s Day include The Loop (in Downtown), Irish American Heritage Center or Goose Island.
When it comes to the budget, make sure to look for low-cost flights and don’t be afraid to sleep in hostels. As mentioned above, London is not exactly the cheapest place in Europe, but you can find cheap accommodation and use the rest of the money for…well, having fun! Also, London is served by a variety of low-cost carriers so flying from Dublin can be as cheap as €56 round trip per person (on Ryanair).
