Sheepish Tourism in Ireland

Ireland has a lot of sheep.

Okay, maybe not as much as New Zealand (where there’s so many of the little blighters that they’re farting a hole in the ozone), but it’s hard to travel far in the emerald isle without seeing some sheep. So, why not shop for some sheep-inspired gifts during your Irish visit? Ireland’s agriculture is in decline and needs all the support it can get (although, the blogger sheepishly admits, items in the image of a sheep probably do little to support the Irish farmer). Seeing as how Christmas is coming up, I thought I’d do a post on some sheep gifts to get your inspirational juices flowing . . .

Now, the first thing you’d probably think of is an Aran Sweater, but there are loads of other wool garments – hats, scarves and even these cool fingerless gloves I found in Donegal that are warm as heck in addition to being hand-spun, dyed and knitted.

What about this sheep handbag? While it has probably not a stitch of wool in it, it sheer is cute, isn’t it?

These sheep products are available in just about every tourist centre in Ireland and, of course, there will be some variation in products available.

Anybody out there got a favourite sheep gift?

Finally, I present to you the slippers below: are they in bahhhd taste? I’m sure you woold buy some if you could.
