Galway Arts Center

Galway Arts Center runs two locations both situated in the city center. The arts center located at Dominick St. is a 3,000 sq. foot gallery that displays international and national contemporary arts. It is open from Monday until Saturday (10 am to 5:30 pm). You don’t have to pay any cent for admission as it is free. Also, the building plays as a host to a wide array of events from writing, photography and art classes to voice, music and drama workshop.

Galway City Museum

The museum is open daily, from 10am until 1pm and 2m until 5pm. The City Museum is basically a folk museum and it has a considerable quantity of artifacts relevant to the industry of fishing, which is a vital part of the Galway’s tradition. The purpose of the Galway City Museum is to display a range of antique and equipment that were traditionally employed in the city, revealing its traditions. The artifacts displayed include tools and pieces of machines. There is an inspiring compilation of military material that includes arms. The medieval heritage of Galway is also embodied in the medieval part, together with a sequence of stone carvings of the 17th century.

Woodlands

If you love nature and spending some time relaxing in the fresh air, here are some ideas which don’t cost a thing.

1. Rinville Park – The Park is situated close to Oranmore village. The amenity of the park is made around a majestic home, a fine land demesne and an ancient castle of the 16th century. Through a broad set-up of walks all through the open farmland and woodland and by the shore, the Rinville Park provides a leisure amenity of excellent beauty and quality. Also, it features some fabulous environment. The park contains a picnic ground and an adventure playground for kids. It is accessible to public all throughout the year and the admission is gratis.

2. Barna Woods – These woods are situated on the western edge of the city and are managed and owned by the City Council of Galway.

3. Coole Park – This is regarded as a nature reserve of about 1,000 acres managed by the Irish National Parks & Wildlife Service and is situated few miles from the west part of Gort. It has broad woodlands and a sequence of turloughs with six km. of marked nature tracks and an official walled garden. Coole Park was previously the property of Lady Gregory before it was sold in 1927.
