Spring is a Lovely Time to Visit Dublin
Do you think Spring Break is just a thing American students use an excuse to party in tropical locations? Think again! Spring Break is a very good opportunity for European students to travel as well. And spring, in general, is one of the best times to visit Europe especially if your budget is not exactly too high.
Spring is one of the driest times of the year in Ireland. And May is the sunniest month. Over all though, Dublin’s weather doesn’t have a good reputation and you might as well end up here when the weather is nasty (read: damp). Spring weather is quite cold. So pack the appropriate clothes for possible rainy and cold days.
When it comes to the prices, Dublin might just burn a rather small whole in your pocket. Airfare to Dublin is affordable thanks to the many low-cost carriers flying to/from the city and other European destinations. And cheap hotels in Dublin aren’t that hard to find either. Depending on the location and facilities, you’ll most likely pay around €30 per night. If you plan to travel for St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) expect the prices to be higher and make sure to book in advance.
Aside from trying the local pubs and great beer, you can also attend some of the festivals going on in the city during this time of the year.
The Chinese New Year runs from February 12 to 21 and one of the highlights of the festival is the colorful parade. Needless to say, if you like Chinese food, you’ll be able to sample some of the best during the festival.
Literature lovers (and writers) will appreciate The Dublin Book Festival (March 6 to 8 ) taking place in Dublin’s City Hall. Attend book launches and readings if you want to get to know more about the Irish writers.
Dublin is the place to be for the St. Patrick’s Festival (March 12 to 17). You’ll be able to enjoy plenty of Irish dance and music, street theater and excellent entertainment for the entire family. The highlight of the festival is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which takes place on March 17.
