New Irish Monopoly

I was doing some Christmas shopping when I came across this, the new Monopoly board game. I mentioned the Irish version of the Monopoly board game a few months ago, and this still has all the latest Irish landmarks, etc but with one new twist: bank cards.

That’s right: forget the old Monopoly money. Now players of the Irish Monopoly board game will use little plastic cards and a card swiper to conduct their transactions. The cover of the box proudly reads there: “Cards, not cash!”

I suppose this is just Monopoly keeping up with the times, but I’m going to miss the old Monopoly money. The financial powers that be in the real world is pushing the consumer hard enough to stop using his cold hard cash.
